Gallery — No Ads (package com.codebanao.gallery) is published by Code Banao. This policy covers the Android app only. Its permanent address is codebanao.com/galleryprivacypolicy — the version published there is the one that applies.
The short version. This app collects nothing, sends nothing, and stores nothing about you anywhere outside your own phone.
It is not able to. The released app declares no INTERNET permission in its manifest, so Android will not let it open a network connection at all. That is a capability the app does not have, not a promise about how we behave.
You can check this yourself in a few seconds: Settings → Apps → Gallery — No Ads → Permissions.
What the app accesses on your device
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Photos and videos already on your phone | To display your gallery — this is the entire purpose of the app | Nowhere. Read from Android's media store and drawn on your screen |
| The capture location stored inside a photo's own EXIF data | Shown in the photo details panel, and only when you open it | Nowhere. Read on demand, never recorded by the app |
| Biometric or device-lock verification | Only to unlock the private vault | Nowhere. Android performs the check and tells the app yes or no — it never sees your fingerprint or PIN |
The app does not use your device's camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, call logs, SMS, or your device's live location.
What the app stores on your phone
A small database inside the app's own private storage holds:
- your settings — theme, layout, column count, sort order and similar
- a record of items you moved to the recycle bin or the private vault
- the files themselves for items in the recycle bin or the vault, kept so that you can restore them
All of it stays on your phone. Uninstalling the app removes it.
What the app does not do
- No account, sign-in or registration
- No advertising, and no advertising SDK of any kind
- No analytics, crash reporting or telemetry
- No cloud backup or synchronisation
- No selling or sharing of personal information, because none is gathered
- No reading of your photos' contents for AI, face recognition, object detection or indexing
There is no third-party SDK in this app that collects data.
Being straight about the private vault
The vault moves files out of the shared media store and into this app's own private storage, where other apps and other gallery apps cannot list or open them. Opening the vault requires your fingerprint or device PIN.
The files are hidden, not encrypted. On a rooted device, or through a full-device backup, they could still be reached. The app says the same thing on the vault screen itself. If you need cryptographic protection, use a tool built for that.
Sharing a photo
When you tap Share, Android's own share sheet opens and you choose where the photo goes. From that moment the receiving app's privacy policy applies. Gallery — No Ads is not part of the transfer and cannot see what you picked.
Permissions, and why each one exists
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO | Display your photos and videos — the app's core function |
READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED | Support Android 14's "select photos" partial access, so you can grant access to some photos rather than all |
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below) | The same, on older versions |
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below) | Restore items out of the recycle bin |
ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION | Show where a photo was taken, in its details panel |
USE_BIOMETRIC | Unlock the private vault |
VIBRATE | Haptic feedback when you select items |
MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE — the “all files access” permission — is deliberately not requested. Neither is INTERNET.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and is not directed at children. Since it collects nothing from anyone, it collects nothing from children either.
Your rights
There is no data to request, correct, export or delete, because none is collected or transmitted. Everything the app holds is on your own device and under your control: clear it from Android's app settings, or uninstall the app.
Changes to this policy
Any future version will be published at codebanao.com/galleryprivacypolicy with the effective date at the top updated. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
